Just How To Fix That Leaky Faucet Fast ?

Posted on October 31st, 2008 by admin

A dripping shower faucet is possibly one irritant you can easily and happily live without.  A faucet that just doesn’t seem to stop leaking drains precious water, and may - in some cases - even flood your apartment or home if it isn’t fixed fast.

That said, most people do not seem to know just how to fix a leaky shower faucet .  They seem to believe that you need a PhD in plumbing and home repair to get the job done :-)
Luckily, it isn’t so hard to fix a leaking shower faucet. It definitely is not rocket science. Or even brain surgery. It is something most people can easily get done - if they knew how.

So here are a few do-it-yourself tips on repairing faucets …

There are mostly two broad categories of faucets. Those that have washers and those that do not.

Faucets that use washers may start leaking when the washer seat gets worn out, when the washer becomes hardened, or when the washers gets worn.

To start with, turn off the water supply to the faucet.

Next, take the faucet apart and examine the stem. If you see that the threads are corroded, replace the stem. You may need to clean the stem in case it’s dirty.

Now, examine the washer closely. If you see that the washer has a groove or has been squeezed flat, then you will need to replace the washer. This should stop the leak.

If you have needed to replace the washer of your faucet too many times, then you may need to replace the washer seat.

Now re-assemble the parts, taking care to apply a lubricant like slilcone grease or petroleum jelly on the stem’s threads.

And in case you think it’s a problem you think you can’t fix all by yourself, then you may either need to replace the entire faucet, or ire a professional to help you out.

Replacing a shower tub faucet may be a slightly different game. Especially if you are taking about one of those elegant, elaborately designed ones. You will have to take care that you do not damage the finish when you are taking the faucet apart. And if it’s a very expensive faucet and you aren’t a skilled do-it-yourselfer, then hiring professional help may be a smart thing to do. After all, you do not want to damage a heart-breakingly beautiful faucet, do you :-)

Finding the Perfect 3D Rendered House Plan

Posted on October 30th, 2008 by admin

Once you have finalized your program and determined your budget, floor plan and exterior style preferences, lot restrictions and all the other items we have covered so far, now it is time to obtain your plans. 3D rendered house plans offer the added benefit of being able to visualize what the house will look like.

There are many sources you can use to obtain 3D house plans. These are the most common:

Stock Plans: Most stock plans are custom homes that were designed for private clients or plans specifically designed for the general public. Since these plans have been refined over time, you benefit from experience and a low plan cost. Stock plans are an excellent way to save thousands of dollars on home plans and because of the savings, affords a lot more people the opportunity to build their dream home. It is also the easiest method to obtain the dream home of your choice.

You may not find a plan that meets your requirements 100% but be aware that making changes in stock plans is very common and reasons can include changes to suit personal tastes, revisions to fit on your lot or to accommodate local ordinances and building codes. Whatever your reason, many stock plan providers offer modification and customization options as part of their service or will direct you to the appropriate method to achieve your changes.

Virtual house plans give you much more detail than static images and renderings, so you can visualize your favorite home plan from all four orientations. 3D feature will allow you to change exterior surfaces, windows and doors, roofing and much more so you can customize and envision your dream home before its built. Truly step inside your dream home and explore your design room by room.

Also many designers offer study plans or review sets, which are mini scaled plans for study and preliminary budgeting; they are not intended for construction and detailed budgeting, but could be helpful if you are uncertain about a particular plan. Thousands of stock plans in every size and style are available.

Residential Architects and Designers: Local architects and residential design specialists provide skill and knowledge of local styles, ordinances and building requirements. Look for a certified architect who carries AIA (American Institute of Architects) credentials, or a residential designer who is certified and belongs to a professional organization, such as the AIBD. Make sure your architect or designer has a thorough understanding of your budget and is familiar with the lot you have purchased. Expect costs for services to be between 2% -15% of the cost of the home, depending on the services provided.

Computer Plan Software: Computer software programs provide amateur designers the opportunity to design homes. These programs can be powerful and easy to use, but they do not warn you of design or structural violations. If you would like to play with these programs and design your own home, it is strongly recommended that you have both the design reviewed and construction drawings prepared by a professional.

Birding Guides for Kids

Posted on October 30th, 2008 by admin

Birders can be serious about their hobby. With field guides in their hands, birders hike into natural habitats to observe wildlife, especially birds. AWESOME!

If you are a birder, you will never be bored taking a walk. What the birder needs is a birding guide, binoculars and the hope of birds nearby.

Birding guides have as much value to birders as home business reviews do to home business operators. The bird guides have information about birds and trails to follow and tips to identify birds. Likewise, home business reviews explain the pros and cons of
specific paths on the business route and which tools to use or avoid.

Believe it or not, a good birding guide can function a lot like an online marketing guide. A birding guide and an online marketing guide are each designed to give guidance to their users, to help them make their way through new territory and identify hazards and goals.

Birders enjoy birding because they have books to assist them with the best ways to pursue their sport. Internet guidebooks or training courses help the online businessperson too. If you find a good guidebook to help you with your work or your sport, keep it and use it well. Birding guides are like home business reviews for birds and birding trips, but birding guides are more closely related to online marketing guides as well.

Live long when you make healthy choices.

Posted on October 30th, 2008 by admin

I pride myself in choosing good all natural products while trying to stay healthy.

It has not always been that way for me. Every year I realize my habits are changing and I lean toward healthy choices. A few years back I never took time to read ingredients listed on packages and containers. Now, I find myself turning away from foods with ingredients containing 25 letters in their name. You know the ones I mean, the words you can not pronounce. To my amazement I discovered ALL NATURAL tastes better, feels better and looks better.

Fresh vegetables and fruits taste fantastic and you get to control the additives.

All natural bath products do not leave a slippery film on your skin or in your hair they rinse off entirely and that phase squeaky clean becomes a reality. I was surprised to found out why my all natural shampoo stings if I get it in my eyes. Do you know why over-the-counter shampoo does not sting? It appears that manufacturers add a chemical that numbs your eyes so you do not feel the sting. Mothers beware, remember NO MORE TEARS means chemicals for you and your family.

I am 62 years old so I remember the sting and then the advertisement for baby shampoo with a catching jingle of NO MORE TEARS. Who knew at the time what they did to the shampoo to stop the sting or who would have thought to even question it. Now I know, they added chemicals to protect your child from the sting. Gee, what about protecting your child from chemicals in the eyes.

Lastly, have you tried Mineral Makeup? Oh my what a shock, you really can fool people when you wear mineral makeup. Mineral makeup is not only light on your skin but it covers up all your skin imperfections. What is truly wonderful is that the makeup is not easily detectible so it appears that you are not wearing any at all. My niece uses the mineral eye liner and shadows and raves about the thickness of her lashes and the beautiful shades she makes easily by blending and layering the minerals. I have tried the layering technique by using the makeup on my Lips over a gloss to give them color.

Plain Old-Fashioned Harassment, Part 3

Posted on October 29th, 2008 by admin

This piece is the last of a three-part discussion on the nature of, and relationship between, cyber-bullies, griefers and the legal concept of harassment.

Because the terms “cyber-bully” and “griefer” are often tossed around interchangeably, I began the first part of my talk by clarifying the term “griefer.” Then, in the second part, I clarifyied the term “cyber-bully,” and by explaining (in both cases) when and under which circumstances the two terms were meaningfully distinguished.

I will begin this section by introducing the legal term harassment.

Where Cyber-Bullying Becomes Harassment

We can certainly disagree over whether we’re looking at a simple case of “griefing” or “cyber-bullying” or whatever else you might want to call it. But, whenever we’re looking at conduct that substantially interferes with the education or physical or mental health of a student, or that threatens or intimidates a student — we are at the same time, looking at what the courts have overwhelmingly held as “plain, old-fashioned harassment.”

Once the perpetrator has engaged in harassment, the law could care less whether they were doing so while playing an online game (as a “griefer”), or were just being malicious to a fellow student (as a “cyber-bully”). In either case, a pattern of inappropriate, disrespectful behaviors, becomes unlawful when (a) enduring the offensive conduct becomes a condition of continued employment (for the victim), or (b) when the conduct is severe or pervasive enough to create an educational environment that a third party, reasonable person would consider intimidating, hostile, or abusive.

“Online harassment,” aside from occurring in an online environment, can still be understood as simple harassment. It can be direct or indirect, where direct online harassment might include threats, intimidating messages and/ or bullying that is submitted directly to a victim by E-mail or other forms of online communication, or by hindering the victim’s internet service, by hacking.

Chat rooms, instant messaging services, and social networking sites are all among the most popular places for cyberbullying, and account for mostly all instances of online harassment.

Online harassment can even follow the victim home. Two of the more important things we learn by looking at cyber-bullying legalistically, is that (a) where harassment is found, the responsibility for creating a safe and respectful school environment is placed on the manager; and (b) schools have a legal responsibility to intervene when they knows or suspects students are being harassed. Ignorance is no defence because, according to law, they either knew about the unlawful behaviors, or should have known.

One way to intervene is to punish. But, before punishing students, schools must draw a distinction between harassment and student expression (i.e., free speech) that is protected by law.

“. . . schools do not need to wait to respond to conduct until it gets to a point where it may be punished. Schools may respond to such conduct in ways other than punishment. In fact, they have a responsibility to do so. For example, if a teacher were to overhear a student directing a homophobic slur at another student, he would have a positive legal responsibility to explain why such language is inappropriate and harmful. The teacher should also point out that if such conduct continues, the perpetrator could be subject to punishment. There is no better way to prevent student harassment than to educate educators about why slurs and other harassing behaviors are harmful.”

- ACLU

By narrowly tailoring its punishments to fit the case at hand, a school strikes the proper balance between two equally important and entirely compatible constitutional rights — the right to equal protection of the laws and the right to free speech.

Insofar as my professional training does not lie directly in the area of law, I think it best at this point to simply direct your attention to the ACLU, which provides a model anti-harassment policy that can prevent harassment without violating student’s free speech rights. Great job.

Why Online Pet Stores Are So Popular?

Posted on October 29th, 2008 by admin

More than 80% of American people own at least one dog. Most of the dog owners take extra care of their dogs with pampering them with pet gifts, toys or pet supplies. Pet owners have a number of options when it comes to buying pet supplies.

Dog owners most often visit a local pet store to purchases pet supplies for their family dog. Pet stores are so popular because a shopper can physically examine each item before purchasing it. This gives many dog owners the opportunity to study the quality of pet supply before buying it for their dog.

Online pet store is another choice because it is very convenient for dog owners.

4 benefits of online pet stores

1. Purchasing pet supplies online is all about convenience because dog owners need not to visit a pet store regularly.

2. Purchasing dog supplies online can help you to save money. You can search online to find a online pet store with discounted price.

3. Traveling to pet store is costly if there is no pet store in your locality. It is cheaper to pay shipping cost rather than traveling to a store which could cost a decent amount of money in gasoline. You can also but\y from a store who offers free delivery or charge minimum if you allow a week time to deliver the product.

4. I personally think the greatest benefit to purchasing pet supplies online is the selection of products available because like retail stores they are limited by floor space, staff, store etc. It is easy to find a product using on site search engine.

You can buy dog training ebook, video, collars or dog kennel everything from a pet store.

Grandma Wants a Nintendo Wii?

Posted on October 29th, 2008 by admin

Are you one of those people who can remember playing board games with your grandparents? I sure can. My grandmother would sometimes play marbles with me. Well, that’s what we called it. I think it really has another name but that’s not important. I thought it was very special when grandma would play too. Whatever you did, do not beat grandma at marbles because she was likely to throw the marble board if you did! I loved playing with my grandmother but she did not do that too often (at least from a kid’s prospective). Now that I am older, I can understand why she did not.

Outsmart the Grand Kids

Times have changed, and the games the kids play have changed too. Now board games have been replaced by video games for the younger generations. So if you want to be a “hip” grandparent, you have to be willing to learn something new (in other words, video games). Don’t worry, you can beat them at their own game by selecting a video game console that is senior friendly. The Nintendo Wii is designed to detect the motion of your hands and arms which is far easier than having to have the fastest fingers in the world like other video game systems. Also, the target audience for the Nintendo Wii games is a younger crowd than for other video game consoles. This means that the games being sold are likely to be more family appropriate. However, be sure you check the ratings on the game box and read some reviews before buying.

Enjoy a great Past-time

So, that is nice that my grand kids will like it but what do I do with it when the grand kids are not visiting? That’s easy. You play some games yourself. There are several games that are just downright fun to play. You can have a game night between you and your spouse or invite some friends over for a video game party. Some of the fun games are: Wii Party Games, Wii Sports (like tennis, baseball, and bowling), and Wii Big Brain Academy Wii Degree. You can find other games that peak your interests on our website in our Electronics section’s Nintendo Wii and Accessories (just click the link).

Buy it for your Health

Still not convinced? Well, I am not finished yet. Do you ever worry about your health? Have you ever thought about getting a debilitating disease like Alzheimer’s disease? What if there was something you could do to help prevent or slow down the onset of such dreaded diseases? Would you try it? What if this solution also costs way less than the doctor’s bills you would get if you got a disease that incapacitated you? So, what is this great thing that may help prevent or slow down the effects of aging on your body? The Nintendo Wii is the answer! Want to know more about how this is possible? You can read about it in this review titled “Can the Nintendo Wii help prevent Alzheimer’s Disease?”

Breakthroughs on How to Improve SelfConfidence

Posted on October 28th, 2008 by admin

Your natural state is to be confident but if you lack confidence you need to build it up. When you are living with confidence, then you just do what you want, without the fear holding you back

The secret of How to Build Confidence is to be confident is to be comfortable with yourself and who you are, and to have all the skills, knowledge and habits required to do what you want. Life is not a destination, it’s a journey, and you need to feel satisfied with the place you’re at in your journey right now. It’s a journey during which you can expect to learn more, change your priorities and acquire different passions and aspirations. If you’re not changing you’re just standing still. If you’re focusing only on the destination rather than the journey, then you’ll become stressed.

Whatever you choose to do in life will require knowledge, skills and habits. When you have those then you can do those things that are important to you. When you don’t have them you’ll struggle with life and, worse still, you won’t attempt even important things.

Since confidence is a natural state of being, when you lack it, then it becomes an issue.

The gap is what I describe as the difference in your mind between where you believe you are right now and where you believe you should be. Neither of these positions are necessarily realities, they’ve been created, in your mind, by you. The bigger the gap between the two, the more stressed you’re likely to feel, and tension and stress will most certainly undermine your confidence.

Most of us have a stilted view of where we are currently, but this perception can be changed, as can your view of where you want to be. The key is learning to be ‘mindful’ about your daily life so that you become more rooted in the here and now. Rather than slowing you down this process will help to remove distractions and allow you to focus more of your energy on living the life you already have. What’s amazing is that this in itself will boost your confidence.

If you think you’d like to know more about this subject, please visit the Confidence Blog.

Confidence coaching is about helping you bring out this natural confidence with in you. Is is about you, because each of us is different, then what we each need to be confident is different. Read more on How To be Confident.
